I worked at a dealer, some random lady paid our techs to lift up her car and check it for tracking devices.. I don't think it was a case like this, I think she was genuinely crazy.

I'm no car or security guy, but I have a few guesses. 1: Tracking for repo. I worked at a theme park as a lot security person for years and we have had repo people come before, most of the time being tow trucks though there were probably a few that had a spare key given by the dealer, though we would deny them. If the car didn't have any after-market services active, they had to have tracked it somehow. 2: Tracking for theft from owner. Probably not the reason it would be used. They'd most likely use whatever special service, like Lo-jack or Onstar, that was installed in the car to track it. That is if they don't use that tracker for those services. 3: Tracking for theft from dealer. Lots of cars. Seems easy to miss one or two. 4: Tracking for theft going to the dealer. Probably installed at the factory and used to make sure the shipment arrives safely. 5: Get driving data in real time. Biggest conspiracy theory for this one. Highly unlikely if it's just a gps tracker, but possible if it's more than that. It's hooked up directly to the car's computer, so it is possible to collect data and send it off without storing the data on the device. Of course, this is under the assumption that that's possible to do. Driving data being used, hopefully, to make cars safer and more efficient.

Is it related to that news about car dealers tracking your driving habits and selling that info to the insurance companies?

My family currently has 5 Toyotas. I think I may make a weekend project out of checking each for any tracking device. 3 are fully paid off, 2 are financed through a third party, but current and never missed a payment. Regardless, I do not like being tracked by anyone I didn't authorize to track me.

If this is happening in Europe then there will be some hefty fines and compensation payments.

Super weird to suggest NOT doing this and to just press a button every time they turn their car off for the rest of time. Like yeah sure it’s not a big deal, but neither is the mod. You were chatty and nervous in your TOO LONG video. You kept nervously moving that extraneous tracker, but didn't focus on the information on the tracker itself, nor did you confront the dealership about the horrid addition to your vehicle. Again, too much talking with little information.

This is just speculative. Dealerships are privately owned businesses. Could just be from initial shipment from factory applied by a third-party logistics company. Tracking allocations would be wise given the state of our world and the theft level. Given the status of the car or any car to ensure the dealership don't lose track of their investment if stolen during transit. Pre-PDI (during shipment; from the plant) It would be a method to ensure their own investment per Dealer. I'd prolly do it if it was my business and if it's a service by another company then they could forget to uninstall before dropping it off or PDI. At the time you got your GR the car was unfamiliar to techs and they could have assumed the OBDII adapter color was typical of the model. As well given you were waiting there for the truck to arrive and expedited the process for you to get the vehicle there was less time for review or doublechecking. Take it off-move on.

I worked at a dealership in Florida where we installed GPS trackers on every new car as part of the pre-delivery inspection. The primary reason was the dealership's limited space for inventory, leading to the use of satellite lots throughout the city. When a customer was interested in a specific vehicle, the associated GPS code helped locate and retrieve it for showing. However, the GPS trackers were not removed upon purchase. Customers were meant to be informed of the tracker's presence and offered the option to buy a package for access to the tracking information, which could be useful if the vehicle was stolen. I believe the dealership also used the system to locate vehicles for repossession if the owners fell behind on payments.

Just bought a car for our daughter. Dealerships in my area are requiring us to pay $2k-$4k on top of purchase price and marketing it as “anti-theft” and saying it’s pre-installed so we don’t have a choice, we have to pay it. I knew it was sus. At least one salesman was honest about it and told us it was for repo purposes. We did end up buying a car from him and basically got the price of the car low enough so that the cost of the gps to us was minimal. After we took the car home we were able to find the gps device and removed it

Just wait until you find out what kind of info your cellnphone is collecting about you (google has voice recordings of you dating back over a decade, as well as your exact location all day, everyday). Or your TV, did you know most tv's have microphones? Why might that be??? I can assure you, we at the dealerships have absolutely zero desire to track you, getvover yourselves 😂. Most likely what happened - A sales manager found out he can make an extra ouple hundred bucks on each car sale by installing them on every car and marking them up $$ as an anti theft device. also makes repos from broke mf'ers easier. We used to be REQUIRED by the BANK financing the loan to put them in, and we had ZERO access to them. Only the bank had access to them, and legally could not share that info with us, or even track it at all unless they defaulted or reported it stolen. There is a 99% chance you agreed to having it in there, you just signed without reading all the paperwork. If not, a salesmans inconoetence is to blame, go back to the dealer and talk to them, its not that hard. You will get some money back

It's odd how freaked out people get with the thought of trackers in their cars and the anti vaxers claiming we were secretly being chipped for the government to monitor us. With almost everyone carrying a smart phone, paying for most purchases with cards (credit, debit, mass transit cards, toll roads etc) and with personal online data/search history compiling, we're already willingly choosing to participate in being tracked. Devices that cause a parasitic drain on batteries are annoying. But nothing compared to all the things we ingest that are approved by the FDA which cause illness, diseases and shorten our lives.

I don’t know if anybody has said this yet, but I’m pretty sure if there isn’t anything about that in there, your attorney will probably try to make it a class action suit, which isn’t good for you if you want a settlement out of it

They want to mandate in 2025 that you have a breathalyzers in all cars and trucks and a kill switch and it has a thing to hear what you say and talk about which is an invasion of your privacy. It is (AI) that can hear what you say. How is it going to be able to tell if you avoiding something when it might think think you are drunk when you are not drunk. I guess we have to check the car before we drive the car off the lot but they can say you must have put that on there when you didn't. You will have to film it and talk in the video or have someone there if you see it installed on your car. My sister had a bad experience at Toyota of Orange CA. They lied about having a special paint sealant they don't even have. She paid for that to be put on and damaged the paint on her bumper and installed an alarm that messed with the passenger window and would not go down. The lock had an issue and they could not figure it out. Once she pulled what I think was the alarm everything worked. They told her basically they would give her the moon. She wrote to the President of Toyota as to what happened and they got scared and changed their tune. They want to put a device in the car to see how far you drive so they can tax you is what they are trying to do. Any mods you do you have to have a carb EO approved sticker that shows the part is legal. They say to keep it in your glovebox because they only issue you one sticker and if you put it on something hot it will melt the sticker. They say to stick it on the part but you don't because it could ruin the sticker. They are banning computer programmers that give you more HP and better mileage. They have the RPM act that is trying to stop this but so far they have not been successful in passing the RPM act so you can do what you want to your car or truck. I hope this never happens to you ever again.

Check your light bulbs for turn signal back up lights I had a backup light that turned out to be a tracking device since then have people following me constantly plus drones??😮 WTF

Did your dealership not walk you through all of the purchase agreement? My sales rep clearly underlined the section about the car being GPS connected and that Toyota HQ can access that information. If you want the Toyota connected app where you can see where you car was last parked, how far and how fast it moved while being in service or loaned to a friend, partner etc you can sign to concent to that for 3 years for free, if you want to keep that connectivity it's $15/mo after the fact. I don't understand how you were sold the car without this explained. You had to explicitly consent to this and sign off on it as part of the sales agreement. You could decline no problem at all, just giving up those connected featured. I'm sure your Lawyers will get to the section outlining what you consented to in the fine print but definitely bad on the dealership and sales person for glancing over this.

hello Anthony I am also from Houston) I have also had to call out few dealers for the ball face lies( maybe nature of the business( however this sound like something the channel ( steve Letho ) would be interested in he is a auto lemon lawyer and is very big in auto laws. maybe he would inform many others about such things. I understand you have a lawyer but steve would get the word out in a huge way

My question for the dealership would be why wouldn't they have taken the GPS out once delivered to dealership and why wouldn't they possibly be wanting it back today? Did they ask for it back on the spot?
